Our Proven Steps to Build a High Performance Home:
Click on the links below to jump to each step:
Step 1: The Energy Model
Save Money & Time & Meet Performance Standards
How do you know if the project you have designed will perform effectively? Will the structure meet the IECC 2018 or IECC 2021 code requirements? Is there going to be sufficient ventilation for the number of occupants? Components such as the building envelope, or shell, the mechanical equipment, windows, doors and even the building’s orientation, have an impact on energy consumption and home performance.
Energy models can save you time and money by testing both performance and prescriptive methods to code compliance. Priority Energy will help you make educated construction decisions to match your budget. We can show you where to make tradeoffs, such as insulation, mechanicals and/or ventilation while minimizing investment. Let our building envelope specialists provide you with the most effective path to meet your goals.
HVAC Sizing Reports for Easy Code Compliance & Building Permits
One size (HVAC system) does not fit all! Our mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) experts will determine what type and size of equipment will suit your project and performance requirements. New mandates, from both the IECC (since 2012) and the State of Illinois (since 2016), require builders to have Manual J and S reports prior to obtaining a village building permit.
Priority Energy uses ACCA/ANSI approved software to perform load calculations (Manual J), ductwork design and sizing (Manual D), and mechanical equipment sizing (Manual S).
Architects and builders can rely on us to deliver accurate and timely reports to get your HVAC contractors off the right start. Send us your building plans and we’ll give you a quote!
Step 3: Aeroseal
Duct Sealing to Easily Meet Code Standards & Save Energy
Aeroseal is the only duct sealing method guaranteed to pass today’s more stringent code standards. Many builders and engineers now specify Aeroseal duct sealing in their initial design plans for both new construction and upgrade projects. That’s because Aeroseal is much quicker, less labor intensive and less expensive in the long run than isw sealing ducts with tape and mastic.
Your customers will like Aeroseal, too! Duct sealing not only saves energy, it also makes homes more comfortable, improves indoor air quality (especially great for allergy sufferers!) and increases the durability of the HVAC system.
Priority Energy’s highly trained technicians can complete most jobs in less than a day with a specially-developed computerized sealing system. Keep the good air in and the bad air out. Call today for your free quote.
Step 4: Test & Verify
IECC Duct Leak Tests, Blower Door Tests & Performance Verification
We know you are on a tight construction schedule. Priority Energy’s BPI certified technicians will quickly and accurately perform a duct leakage and blower door test(s) and get the verification reports back to you within 24 hours. Schedule your IECC test today.
Energy Star and Zero Energy Ready Homes (ZERH) require more rigorous performance testing throughout all stages of construction in order to attain these EPA and DOE-backed certifications. Priority Energy’s certified HERS raters can guide you through this advanced process, and provide the verification tests you need for national recognition for these code standards.
Step 5: Take Advantage of Other Services
Installation Inspection, Contractor Verification & Consulting
Ever wonder if your contractors/subs are “doing it right”? Priority Energy’s work doesn’t end at the design stage! Our knowledge of code requirements, insulation standards, air sealing, HVAC systems, thermostats, ventilation and humidity control, combined with our construction experience, can help you be sure that corners aren’t being cut–literally!
