HERS Raters must complete Energy Star training in order to provide builders with third-party Energy Star certification services. Priority Energy provides in-person training for Energy Star v3/3.1 single family new construction (SFNC) and multifamily new construction (MFNC) homes. As an approved Energy Star training provider, we utilize the EPA’s Energy Star curriculum, combined with our own IECC code compliance materials, to ensure Raters understand how to guide builders through the stringent construction process and how to complete the Energy Star verification checklists. Both Energy Star courses are eligible for 18 RESNET continuing education credits (CEUs).
The EPA’s Certification Requirements
Individuals completing third-party verification inspections required for ENERGY STAR certification must:
a) be Certified Raters or Approved Inspectors, as defined by ANSI / RESNET / ICC Standard 301, or an equivalent designation as determined by a Home Certification Organization (HCO) or Multifamily Review Organization (MRO); and
b) have completed an EPA-recognized training class for the ENERGY STAR program. Each course includes a completion test and Raters much achieve a passing grade of 80% or better. To begin and maintain a partnership with ENERGY STAR, an Energy Rating Company must identify staff who hold one of these designations and have earned a training certificate.
Priority Energy’s Energy Star Training will cover:
• How to become an Energy Star partner
• The Energy Star Certification process
• Energy Star Construction requirements
• IECC 2021 codes
